My thoughts on the Droid X

Submitted by Rory Rezzelle on Wed, 08/11/2010 - 12:17

(Ed note: I thought I posted this already, but better late than never!)

First: no, I didn't have any reception issues with the Droid X. I tried holding it the way that Apple said to, I tried covering the place that they say will affect signal, and I got no change in bars. I covered every side, bottom, top, back and front, but there was no change at all. I even held it under the bed and it just went down one bar! This is a superphone!

3 Minute (or less) Review: Speaking Universal Translator

Submitted by Rory Rezzelle on Mon, 07/19/2010 - 22:36

There are two misleading things in the title of this review: it's not 3 minutes or less, and the app isn't a universal translator. Currently the app translates between 4 languages -- English, French, Italian, and Spanish -- and it doesn't do very well at that. It does translate English to [insert other language here] well, but going the other way is a lesson in patience.

3 Minute (or less) Review: MicDroid

Submitted by Rory Rezzelle on Sun, 07/18/2010 - 18:08

Today's 3 Minute (or less) review is for MicDroid, which lets you auto-tune your voice! I know Jay-Z won't be happy that Android users are downloading this but T-Pain will be thrilled. It's easy to use, just click the "On" button, record your voice, and then click "Off". MicDroid will auto-tune your recording and then ask you to save. Press Menu and go to "Recordings" and you will find all your saved recordings. You can also change the settings around if you like from the app's menu.

3 Minute (or less) Review: RockPlayer

Submitted by Rory Rezzelle on Sat, 07/17/2010 - 22:27

This is the first in what I hope will be a nice little series for the site, 3 minute reviews (or less) of new apps to the market. I am downloading these and using them for the first time on the camera, so this is basically what you will see in the first 3 minutes of using the app. Hope you enjoy this one and we'll keep doing this until we run out of apps (NEVAR!).

Oh yeah, one thing I found out after posting this video, you need to go to MENU > EXIT to actually kill the app or it will run in the background and slow things down. Just FYI.

I'm still excited over the Droid X announcement today, and what do I find when I get home? A box from Verizon, of course! What could be in the box, you ask?

Droid Cookies

That's right! Cookies! Thanks Verizon!

Android 2.2 ROMs on the Moto Droid [impressions]

Submitted by Rory Rezzelle on Thu, 06/10/2010 - 12:30

Since Sunday, June 6, I have been been using Android 2.2 on my Motorola Droid, the first release was posted by MyDroidWorld Saturday night and many servers were too full to handle the demand. Another release was posted soon after with a few fixes (most notably was the fix for Chrome To Phone) and besides a few hangup everything was running smoothly. I was happy with the MDW release and knew that soon the ROM makers and themers would be using these releases to create and deploy.
