Verizon Wireless 3G down on Droid

Submitted by Rory Rezzelle on Wed, 03/03/2010 - 06:21

It seems that Verizon Wireless's 3G data is down on (what looks like) just Moto Droids. Could this be a precursor to 2.1? I don't remember this happening when 2.0.1 rolled around. I checked my wife's Eris this morning and she has 3G, no problem, but all of the Droids that I check have no 3G.

Nothing official has been said yet and the twitterverse and  blogosphere all seem to be asleep still. The only thing I could find was a forum post at Droid Forums.

kellex over at Droid Life has found the APK for Google Earth and released it for the masses, including the Motorola Droid. Just download the APK file, transfer it over to your Droid via USB, then open Astro File Manager and install.

Simple and effective!

Motorola Droid 2.1 Update Coming Or Not?

Submitted by Rory Rezzelle on Thu, 02/11/2010 - 18:17

Currently I'm following "droid 2.1" as a search on Twitter and it has been a roller coaster ride over the past few days. I posted Monday about Motorola's Facebook wall post and how it had everyone going crazy that the Droid was going to get its rumored 2.1 update this week, well now the general consensus is that Motorola has gone back on its word and will not be updating this week because of a post on the Motorola support forums by Matt, the forum manager. I just don't know if I believe that.

Here's the general outline of what's gone down so far:

The Twitterverse and Blogoverse is all abuzz with news from Motorola's Facebook wall that they will be releasing Android 2.1 for the Motorola Droid.

No other announcement has been made so only time will tell if this is accurate or not.

Android Market App Review: C:GEO

Submitted by CDWilliams05 on Sat, 02/06/2010 - 12:35

For those that Geocache with their phones, I'd like to let everyone know of the newest free geocaching app. It is called C:geo, and is one of the few free apps I would gladly pay for. The app does have some limits, but the guy is cranking out updates left and right. Here's my thoughts on it.

DroidJnkie posted a great way to clean dust and debris from the ear speaker on the Droid @ Android Forums:

Tape! Roll it around your finger inside out so it's double-sticky, stick the corner in there, and poof! you're clean as a whistle!

If you have any quick tips for the Droid, leave them in the comments.

Product Review: Verizon Wireless Shell/Holster Combo

Submitted by CDWilliams05 on Fri, 01/22/2010 - 19:27

I must say this is the best holster I have ever used for any phone, I've ever owned. If you want something sleek and subtle this is your best bang for the buck. They make one for the Eris and the Droid.

The product is made of a hard plastic, however it doesn't feel cheap. It has a nice matte satin finish to it. The hinge is also very well constructed, and allows swiveling.

The OTA was a lie

Submitted by Rory Rezzelle on Fri, 01/22/2010 - 14:07

Acording to @MotoMobile, the official Motorola Twitter page, the OTA that Droid users were reporting they received wasn't an OTA after all!

For DROID users asking about an OTA update, we have not released a new one since Dec. update. Pls visit our support forums if having issues!

Verizon still hasn't said anything about the OTA that was pushed out to a few hundred handsets a few days ago and looks like it is going to be silent for the rest of the weekend. If there's anything that comes up we'll have the info here.

Motorola Droid OTA, getting ready for 2.1?

Submitted by Rory Rezzelle on Tue, 01/19/2010 - 11:32

Droid forums have been exploding with talk about an OTA that some Droid users received early Monday morning. At first the hopeful thought it was an early 2.1 update but Android version and kernel numbers showed that they were all the same as before.
